bulletTuesday, November 20, 2007 - WE´RE ENGAGED!!

Well it’s quite an exciting day in the Bishop household because I rolled over this morning and got a glimpse of the diamond on my finger and remembered that LUKE SKYWALKER PROPOSED LAST NIGHT!! And most importantly I said yes :) For those of you that know us, this doesn’t come as a huge surprise - for others who read my onine journals you may have caught onto my not-so-subtle comments about a certain "Luke Skywalker". This name is only partly fictional, as his real name is Sky Walker Jones, a tribute to his mother’s avid love for Star Wars. I gave him a stage name to protect the innocent but now I’m gonna just throw him under the bus because he’s gonna be my HUSBAND!

Sky and I met last year at the Larry Joe Taylor Festival (how cliche, I know) after a friend had tried unsuccessfully to match us up for over 6 months. At one point, Sky even bought $50 tickets to a show of mine at Bass Concert Hall only to arrive on the big night and find that my opening slot had been replaced with Adam Carroll (thanks a LOT Robert!). Another time, I was expecting to meet him at a show at 8.0’s, again in Ft. Worth, but he now showed. But on April 28, 2006, good ole Larry Joe came to the rescue. It was pretty much love at first site, although I mis-heard "Sky" for "Scott" - a common mistake I would later discover - and called him by the wrong name for the first six hours. I’m still not sure if he was just being polite or was so taken by my beauty that he didn’t notice :)After a year and a half together and many joys, laughs, and tears, Sky somehow still saw past all my womanly insanity and artistic chaos and thought enough of me to ask me to spend the rest of my life with him. He did it like this:

My mom came over to go shopping with me for our Thanksgiving groceries. I had just returned from running at Town Lake with Emmy and looked a complete sweaty mess. She asked if, after we got back from the grocery store, if we wanted to go to dinner and a movie. When she inquired as to whether we had plans, Sky was kind of like, "Well, uh, we, um..." and I go, "NO! We don’t have plans!", forgetting that just hours before he had said he wanted to take me to a wine bar and a movie for a some alone time. So we decided to all go to the movie together. Well we took such a long time at the grocery store (go figure) that by the time we returned to the house there was no time to shower and we just piled in the car and went to the movie. Nothing seemed awry, and in fact I was kind of annoyed that Sky and my mom were all "buddy buddy" and was intending to pull a Bonnie when we got back to the house. But when we pulled in the driveway, Mom started to come in and Sky said, "Nope, we’ll just see you tomorrow." About this time I glanced towards the house and saw what looked to be graffitti or signs hanging on the wall in the front room.

"Sky, what the hell...?!" I said, as he ushered mom back into her car and guided me towards the front door. He told me he had a surprise, that this was the project he’d been secretly working on in the garage for the past two months. (Sidenote: Sky had been secretly working on a project in the garage for the past two months and everytime I tried to go in there he would yell and push me out. It was a source of many rude yellings on my part.) So he pulls my bandana down over my eyes and we go inside and when he unblindfolds me, I see three large canvasas hanging on the wall.  The one in the middle has a large sheet of paper over it that says, "1st Annual Jones Art Show."  The one on the left was a mess of colored coat hangers, Star Wars figurines, paper clips, keys, and a fishing lure. The painting on the right is painted sweetly in white and green and covered with crossword puzzles and suspended lemons. (Sidenote 2: Sky got me to kiss him the first time after Emmy ran into a tiki torch at Crazy Ray’s campsite at the festival and splashed lighter fluid in his eyes. He went into the bathroom to flush his eyes out with water, and when I went in there to see if he was ok he goes, "Smell my face, it smells like LEMONS!" I leaned into smell his cheek and he turned and kissed me, hence we have a fondness for Lemons.) He then tells me that the painting on the left represents the chaos that is our life and all the things about him that drive me crazy, and the one on the right is the opposite, representing all the sweetness we have and the things I love about him. At this point, I still just think he made me some artwork, not unlike him, and it’s actually pretty cute.

But then he goes to the middle painting and says, "What do you think about this one?" And when he takes the sheet of paper down, the most gorgeous diamond ring is suspended in the middle of canvas with these words painted all around it: "What are you doing for the rest of your life? The North and South and East and West of your life? I have only one request of your life. That you spend it all with me." He got down on one knee, I balled my eyes out and wrapped my arms around his neck and screamed "YES" as loud as I possibly could. And then I quickly put the ring on my finger where it will shine for all eternity...or at least the rest of our life on earth :)

So that’s it! I know alot of you want all the cheesy details, so there they are. I’ve also put a bunch of photos up on MySpace so check those out at www.myspace.com/bonniebishopband. We are very excited and are starting to make wedding plans...this along with finishing my record, selling the house, and losing about 75 pounds. It’s gonna be a busy year, but it’s gonna be a great one! I want to thank all my close friends and family and all the many people who have been a positive and meaningful part of my life thus far, for encouraging me and loving us through our relationship. We have not gotten to this point on our own! But Most of all I thank God and my future husband today - because now I truly know what love is.

Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
